Lois Durnell Burke, 99, of North Huntingdon, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at her home.

She was born March 1, 1919 in Perry Township, Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Albert and Bertha (Boots) Durnell.  Prior to her retirement, Lois was a clerical secretary for the Ellwood City News, and later was employed by Universal Rundle, Mathews Conveyor and "Rexnord".  She was a 1937 graduate of Lincoln High School and was a member of Wurtemburg United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merton J. Burke; brother, Wilbur Durnell; sisters, Catherine Durnell, Mabel Maskrey and Mildred Cain.  She is survived by her son, M. Jerry Burke Jr. and his wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Patrick (Hannah) Burke, Erick Burke, Courtney Burke Little; great-grandchildren, Caiden and Gaige Jones, Logan and Landon Burke; one nephew and three nieces.  Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Tuesday from 2-5 p.m.  A funeral service will follow at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Interment will take place on Wednesday, 1 p.m. in The Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ellwood City, PA.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wurtemburg United Methodist Church and the family requests that you keep Lois in your prayers.   www.shirleyfuneralhome.com.
