Raymond J. Machek, age 88, of North Huntingdon, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born February 17, 1930 in Duquesne, PA, a son of the late Joseph D. and Mary Irene (Petrak) Machek.

 Prior to his retirement, Ray was employed by US Steel for 38 years in the fire brick masonry department, and later worked on outside contract jobs with long time co-workers. He was active with St. Agnes Parish as a lector, usher, and volunteer with their “Hardly Able ConstructionCompany” on church projects, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict from 1951-53 and the Marine Corps Reserves until 1959. He was also an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4210 in West Mifflin, and member of the Democratic Committee of Westmoreland County, Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees, American Legion Post 701 in White Oak, and the Teutonia-Mannerchor & Social Club in Duquesne. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, F. Shirley (Moore) Machek; two sons who were the focus of all his hard work and sacrifices, Jack and David Machek; and granddaughter, his “pumpkin,” Alexandra Machek. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Machek of Duquesne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the BrightFocus Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports research and education on eye and brain diseases, including macular degeneration. Friends will be received at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10:00 am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, North Huntingdon.
