Rita Mae Popovich, age 86, of Liberty Borough, died March 26, 2018 at Riverside Care Center. Born November 28, 1931, in Munhall, she was the daughter of the late Stephan and Helen (Lengyel) Kostelnik and the wife of the late John Popovich.

Rita was the former owner and operator of the J & R Meat Market in McKeesport and the Belmonte Village in Liberty Borough. She was a member of St. Mark Parish, Christian Mothers and spent many years volunteering for the church fair. Rita loved to cook for everyone and her signature dish was her famous chicken and dumplings. When Rita was not cooking or at the church, she loved to watch old movies and her favorites were The Sound of Music and It’s a Wonderful Life.Rita is survived by children, Dennis and Robert of Liberty Borough,  Donna Smeltzer of Bedford, Anita Basa (Jim) of Port Vue; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Raymond Kostelnik of Verona; sister-in-laws, Darleen Kostelnik of Munhall, Lorraine Popovich, Phil Popovich, Mary Raisner, Anna Stanko, Betty Smoot, and Carol McBurney; also many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph & Robert Kostelnik & sister- in-laws, Mary Kostelnik and Irene Dunlap. Arrangements were cared for by Willig Funeral Home & Crematory.
