Obituaries | The Tube City Almanac | March 06, 2018

Elizabeth "Betty" (Cartia) Vozar, 88, of North Versailles, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2018. She was born July 2, 1929 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Charles Carmela and Maria Rosa (Urblik) Cartia. She was the wife of the late John Vozar. Elizabeth was a member of Miller United Methodist Church in North Versailles. She had previously worked for Orlando's Fruit Market, Cox's Dept. Store and the Salvation Army, all in McKeesport. She enjoyed cooking and baking daily for her family and friends. She also liked Sudoku and variety puzzle books. She loved watching the Food Network, game shows and the news. She never thought of herself, instead, always put others first. She was constantly thinking of what else she can do to make people happy - especially her family. She attended McKeesport High School, but had to quit at 15 years old to take care of her mother. She is survived by her sons, John (Becca) Vozar of Liberty Borough, Kenneth (Kathy) Vozar of North Versailles, and Pastor Ron (JoAnn) Vozar of Fredericktown, Ohio, and her daughter, Liz Vozar of Lincoln Borough. She was the sister of Jim (Nancy) Cartia of Manteca, CA, grandmother of Breanne (Michael) Cleary, Chelsea Vozar, Shaun Vozar, Wayne (Kellie) Vozar, Kristy (Bryan) Conklin, and Kelly (Jay) Russell. She was the great-grandmother of Emmalyn, Taylor, Zach, Ethan, Blake, Annalise, Caleb, and Luke. Elizabeth was one of thirteen children.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Chuck, Tony, August, Sam, Palma, Joseph, Paul and Samuel Cartia, and sisters, Barb Kissel, Anna Cartia, and Mary Palmer. Friends are welcome Wednesday, March 7 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak. (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, director. Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11 am. with Pastor Ron Vozar and Chaplain Billie Harlan, officiating. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Port Vue. The family would like to thank Allegheny Health Network Hospice for their caring and kindness to our mother and our family. Condolences may be made at Gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com
