Josephine C. Tarli, age 89, of Port Vue, died December 18, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital McKeesport. Born April 15, 1928, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Magdalena (Kijowski) Szalankiewicz and the wife of the late Angelo Tarli, who died August 6, 2004. She first worked at the former Crown Chocolate Company, with 6 years of service and then at Dorothy's Candies with 31 years of creating sweet delights. She was a member of the Holy Family Polish National Catholic Church. She was one of the founders of the Port Vue Legionette Drill Team. She was a member of the Port Vue Seniors, Port Vue Auxiliary Unit 447, Glassport Seniors and Spojnia 132 Polish National Union. She is survived by her children, Diane Jo James-Baran of Port Vue, Alfred Piekielek of Rossiter, PA and Cindi (Robert) Elm of McKeesport; former daughter-in-law, Debbie Piekielek of White Oak, step-children, Barbara (Doug) Bannon of Elizabeth and Carol Prior of Lakeland, FL; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph, Edward "Scratchy" and Helena Szalankiewicz; stepson Anthony Tarli; daughter-in-law, Connie Piekielek.
Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Thursday, December 21, 2017, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. A blessing will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017, in the funeral home chapel followed by Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at Holy Family Polish National Catholic Church, with Rev. Bruce Sleczkowski as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Polish National Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holy Family Polish National Catholic Church, 1921 Eden Park Blvd., McKeesport, PA 15132.
