Edward P. Zemprelli, Esq., age 92 of Jupiter, FL and formerly of Clairton, passed away at home on Monday, December 4, 2017.  Born May 11, 1925 in Clairton, he was the son of the late John Zemprelli and Maria (Mercurio) Pelegrini Tomaselli Zemprelli.

Ed was a proud graduate of Penn State University – where he was a member of the debate team and worked the first-down chains at the football games – and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  After passing the bar in 1950, Ed hung his shingle in his home town and began the practice of law.  From there, starting as solicitor for the City of Clairton, Ed began a political career seeing him elected for his home district to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1963 until his election to the Pennsylvania Senate for the 45th District.  Ed retained that office 1969 to 1988, serving as Senate Majority Leader later in that term.  He also served as a trustee for Penn State from 1978 to 1996 and a trustee for the University of Pittsburgh.  In his personal life, Ed was a member of St. Thomas a Becket Church in Jefferson Hills, a talented wood worker, a fan of the opera, a gardener, a chef, a golfer, and, most importantly, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Antoinetta) Zemprelli, who passed away July 15, 2014, and his siblings: Ange Bracken, Lena Capristo, and Michael Tomaselli.  Ed is survived by his daughter Carla Zemprelli Corum of Commerce City, CO; his granddaughter Jamie (Joseph) McVay of Colorado; and his great-grandchildren Sophia, Layla, Adrianna, and Sierra.  Friends will be received in St. Thomas a Becket Church, 139 Gill Hall Rd., Jefferson Hills, PA 15025 on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10 AM until an 12 PM Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Daniel Maurer officiating.  Entombment will be private in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.  Memorial contributions in Ed's name should be made to St. Thomas a Becket Church, address above.   Arrangements by the A.J. Bekavac Funeral Home, 555 5th St., Clairton, PA 15025. (412-233-5700) www.bekavacfuneralhome.com
