Daniel C. Thornton, age 93, of North Huntingdon, passed away Sunday August 13, 2017 at Excela Health Westmoreland.

He was born August 13, 1924 in McKeesport, PA, a son of the late Daniel J. and Catherine Noll Thornton.  Prior to his retirement, Daniel was a wood pattern maker for WABCO and a veteran of the US Army Air Corp having served during WWII.  He was a parishioner of St. Agnes Parish and was an usher for many years.   Dan was a member of China Burma Indian Veterans Administration, life member of the VFW, past commander of VFW Post 781, North Huntingdon,  member of VFW Post 8518, Rillton and the North Huntingdon Township Auxiliary Police.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Alfer Thornton; two sons, Daniel T. and Lawrence Thornton.  He is survived by his two daughters, Amy (Jay) Pushinsky, and Rita (Joseph) Simko;  3 grandchildren, Zoe (Ken) Barnette, Marlena (Carl) Cunha, and Michael Simko; six great-grandchildren, Victoria, Austin, Emily, Paige, Carl Jr. and Lillian; and great-great-granddaughter, Elliana.  Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA.   A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon.  Interment Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norwin Public Library.  www.shirleyfuneralhome.com
