Ruth Louise Whirl, age 102 of Glassport, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at her home.  Born July 8, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Zella Stokes Cox, and the wife of the late Robert E. Whirl, who was the former principal of Glassport High School.

A lifelong member of the Glassport United Methodist Church, she was a former Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, and also an administrative board member.  Mrs. Whirl was a retired administrative assistant from Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Glassport with 21 years of service.  She was a member of the AARP in White Oak and Glassport Women’s Club, including volunteer work at the Samuel Weiss Library since 1940.  She is survived by her son, Robert G. Whirl; 2 granddaughters, Michelle and Tracy; and 2 great-grandchildren, Kathrine and William.  Also dear friends Druella Harris of McKeesport and Darla Losteter of Glassport.

Friends will be received on Thursday, May 18th from 4 to 6 pm at Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler Funeral Home of McKeesport, 600 Market St., McKeesport, PA 15132 (412-678-6191), where service will be held Friday at 10 am.
