Larry J. Berletic, “LB”, age 74, of Jefferson Hills, formerly of McKeesport, died suddenly on January 7, 2017, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born October 4, 1942 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Klacik) Berletic and the husband of Nancy L. (Kohl) Berletic.

Larry spent 35 years as a math teacher and guidance counselor for the Pittsburgh Public Schools before retiring in 2001. He also coached an array of sports during those years, including track and field, basketball, football, and baseball. After his teaching career, Larry continued to work as a clerk at PA Wine and Spirits stores. He took wine classes and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with store patrons. He was a McKeesport High School graduate, attended the Merchant Marine Academy, California University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree, and Duquesne University, where he obtained his Masters degree. He was a member of St. Thomas A’ Becket Roman Catholic Church for the last 40 years. Larry was an avid reader who took great pride in being well informed on many subjects. He also enjoyed good food, sports (primarily baseball), traveling far and wide for his son’s Duquesne University baseball games, was fond of all animals, colorful attire, many trips to New Hampshire, and especially loved his grandchildren. Since the arrival of his first grandchild in 2013, he loved nothing more than spending time with them.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his son Josef D. (Jocelyn) Berletic of South Park, grandchildren; Brooks and Barrett; and many cousins, in-laws, and lifelong friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Willig Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January, 12, 2017, 10 a.m., at St. Thomas A’ Becket Roman Catholic Church. Father Daniel J. Maurer will be the celebrant. Committal will follow at McKeesport and Versailles Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the White Oak Animal Safe Haven.
