Lester David Dawson, age 76, of Commerce, GA, formerly of North Huntingdon, PA, died peacefully on May 10, 2023, with his son by his side after a brief illness at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born March 16, 1947, In McKeesport, he was the son of the late Enoch Lester and Mary Frances (Mortiz) Dawson and the husband of the late Marjorie Alice (Hawk) Dawson.

Lester retired from US Steel on November 30, 2003. He was a follower of Jesus and a lifelong member of McKeesport Alliance Church. He continued to serve various ministries throughout his adult life, bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to children, and was a mentor with the Family Guidance. Lester, Dave, or David depending on how you knew him served in the United States Marine Corps from July 1965 until June 1969. He loved working with his hands and was an avid carpenter and woodworker, building cradles, bookshelves, and handmade items for family and friends. He recently moved to Georgia following a vehicle accident in February 2023 to live with his son and family.

Lester is survived by his son, John (Carla Joy) Dawson; granddaughter, Niki Southerland; grandson, Dominic Charles and Vincent Nolan Ricci; great-granddaughters Adaline Grace and Amelia Joy Southerland of Georgia; sister, Grace (Anthony) Mastro of North Huntingdon, and special friend Colleen Morgan of McKeesport.

In addition to his wife and parents, Lester was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Ola Fuller.

Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, May 14, 2023, from 6 pm until 8 pm at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory. Monday, May 15, 2023, At McKeesport Alliance Church from 10 am until the time of service of 11 am. Burial will be in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.
