He previously resided in New Milford, Connecticut, and spent much time with his grandson picking him up from school and just having fun. He moved back to McKeesport to be with his mother. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in New Jersey and a retired French professor at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in Medieval French literature. She was a Rhodes Scholar, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and the author of several books written in both English and French. Born January 8, 1928 in Oshkosh, WI, she was a daughter of the late Holgar W. and Lillian R. (Johnson) Nelson and wife of the late Rev. Robert M. Baur. She is survived by step-daughters, Cathy (Michael) Bickerton of Fair Haven, NJ and Aynsley Baur of St. Louis, MO; step-grandchildren, Mark (Kim) Bickerton of Glenside, Matthew (Abbie) Bickerton of East Brunswick, NJ, Philip Bickerton of Brooksville, FL, Celine St. Pierre of St. Louis, MO, and Robert St. Pierre of St. Louis, MO; and four step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brother, Richard Nelson. Private service was Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Homewood Cemetery Chapel with the Rev. On Tuesday, January 28, 2020, JoAnn Leckman, age 65, of White Oak, PA, passed away peacefully in her home.  JoAnn was born and raised in McKeesport, PA, the daughter of Dorothy Ruth (White) Cartwright and the late Ronald Wayne Cartwright.  JoAnn was the widow of the late Terry K. Leckman.  JoAnn and Terry shared a long, loving and committed marriage for 37 years, from 1975 to 2012, when Terry passed away.  They were proud members and supporters of the Riverview Baptist Church in McKeesport.  JoAnn Leckman was preceded in death by her father Ronald, her husband Terry, and her brother Jeffrey Wayne Cartwright.

Lula Mae Russ-Lennon, 95, daughter of the late William Henry and Queen Victoria Shaw Russ was born on May 10, 1924 in Council, North Carolina. She departed this life Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Doshia Drakewood and Lily B. Smith; siblings, Viola Beatty, Rather Larkins, Betsy, Willie, Cephus, Raymond, Chester and Joseph (Buster) Russ.

Lula came to Christ at an early age. She joined Kitchen Branch Church, Council, North Carolina and remained faithful there until she moved to Duquesne, Pennsylvania. There she was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church until she met and was married to  James D. Lennon for 41 years. She later joined Macedonia Baptist Church.

While at Macedonia, she became a long-time member for over 70 years. She was President of the Pastor’s Aid Society, Kizzie Clemens Guild, and Gospel Chorus. She served as den mother for the Cub Scouts Pack 316. She also volunteered for over 20 years at Kane Regional Center in McKeesport, PA. She loved cooking for her family and baking for friends as well. She was noted for her Pineapple Upside Down and German Chocolate Cakes.

(Laurie) Schmidt Jr. of Jefferson Hills; grandson, TC (Leann) Ruffing of Floreffe; great-grandchildren, Anna, Grace and Olivia Ruffing; sisters, Dorothy Ault and Mary Hoak, both of Elizabeth Twp.; also, nieces and nephews. Nicholas Stiliha, 97, of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the VA hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He lived all of his life in Duquesne, PA.  He was born in Duquesne, PA on February 18, 1922 and was the son of Stephen Stiliha and Mary Miklos Stiliha.

He graduated from Duquesne High School  in 1940.  He worked in various jobs before he served in the US Navy from 1941-1945 during World War II. He was involved in the bombing of Pearl Harbor during the war. 

Upon being honorably discharged in 1945 from the US Navy, he began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in East Pittsburgh, PA as a supervisor of tool and die department he also obtained his associate degree in engineering at Carnegie Mellon.  He worked for over 40 years,  retiring in 1985. 

He was a member of the former St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Duquesne, PA. and the St. Elias Catholic Church in Munhall, PA  He was involved in several organizations in his church and community. He loved to bowl and was involved in several bowling leagues besides going to Delaware beaches in the summer. He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pitt, and Penn State play.

Patricia taught at St. Clare of Assisi School in Clairton and St. Sylvester School in Brentwood until she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She was a devoted daughter and sister and had taken care of both her mother and sister.

Dale Joseph Toth, 80, passed away peacefully in Apple Valley, CA on January 11, 2020.

Dale was born on August 23, 1939 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania to his parents Joseph Toth and Rita Cullen-Toth. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, and later worked in civil service, which took him around the world to countries like South Korea, South Africa, Iran, and the Seychelles, where he met his wife Dolores.

Dale and Dolores continued traveling the world and one year later, the couple celebrated the birth of their daughter Rita. They then moved to Saudi Arabia, where Dale was able to pursue his passion for diving in the crystalline waters of the Red Sea.

"Larry" Cocozello, age 84 of McKeesport, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020 in UPMC McKeesport.  Born September 15, 1935 in Staten Island, NY, he was a son of the late James and Marie (Reskovac) Cocozello.  A US Army Veteran, Larry was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Parish in McKeesport and retired after 44 years as a sales manager at Sears in primarily McKeesport, but also Eastgate and Century III malls.  He was a member of CFU Lodge #146 in Versailles and was a big animal lover and avid gardener and outdoorsman.  Most importantly, Larry will be remembered as a loving son, brother, and uncle and great friend to many.  He is survived by his sister Louise (the late Robert) Conway of McKeesport; his niece Monica (Richard) Koontz of Elizabethville; his great-nieces-and-nephew Richie, Maria, and Victoria Koontz; and also many cousins.  Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his nephew James "Jimmy" Conway.

Tim or Timmy, as he was affectionately known, played Varsity football and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1981. He enlisted in the United States Army. He was very Industrious & worked many trades throughout Mckeesport/Pittsburgh/Erie,  Pennsylvania area

 Donna Jean King, 82, of Glassport passed away at Southwestern nursing home on Sunday, January 26, 2020 surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born on June 18, 1937 in Glassport to the late Eugene and Claire Bowen Iley. Donna was the loving wife of 42 years to the late Charles E. King. Donna is survived by daughters, Aimee (Neil) Fogarty of Wexford and Valerie (Jack) Beauchamp of Glassport, and a son, Charles “Greg” (Karen) King of Lincoln Boro. She is also survived by three sisters, Carol (Carl) Lawson of AZ; Lois Price of FL; Sandy (James) Letham of NY; and six grandchildren, CJ and Beth King, Sean and Kelan Fogarty, Zachary and Nathan Beauchamp. Donna was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church formerly located in Glassport. She loved dancing to Tom Jones with her beloved husband Charles as well as ceramics, crocheting and cards. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Southwestern Nursing home for their care and compassion. Deborah “Debbie” Jean Racan was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania on September 6, 1948. She departed us on January 22, 2020.

A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Debbie was a fantastic cook and always enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She was an extremely affectionate mother and doting grandmother who was proud of both her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed oldies and had a large collection of albums that she listened to through her passing. She liked meeting new people and would never shy away from being the first to strike up a new conversation. Debbie was formerly employed by Giant Eagle of North Huntingdon.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Joseph “Joe” Racan Sr., brother Charles "Chuckie" Wolf, sister Carol Robinson, son Joseph “Joe” Racan, Jr. and his wife Julie, daughter Tina McGeorge and husband Randall "Randy". She is also survived by five grandchildren, Joseph “Joe” Racan, Adeline Racan, Lauren Racan, Blake and Gavin Mastro.

James "Jimmy" McCelland Lucas, age 61, of Estill Springs, Tenn., departed this life on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

James, affectionately called Jimmy, was born in McKeesport, Pa., to Joseph and Suzanne Murga Lucas on May, 22, 1958. He previously was a resident of Liberty Borough, Pa.

Jimmy is the beloved baby brother of nine adoring sisters. Jimmy enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1979. He is a decorated airman with numerous awards that include the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired after 22 years of honorable service.

Upon retirement, Jimmy worked another 18 years for Arnold Air Force Base.

Holzwarth of West Mifflin; mother of Anthony James (Michele) Holzwarth of West Mifflin; grandmother of McKenna Holzwarth & Zander Holzwarth; sister of Mark (Kimberly) Malinowski of West Mifflin, Leonard J. Ella "Louise" Alred Wilson, 87, of McKeesport departed this life peacefully at home on Thursday, January 16, 2020.  

She was born September 19, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Milo and Ida Mae Alred.  She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, Wilbert A. Wilson, Sr. and three daughters, Toni R. Wilson, Rhonda J. Wilson Leggett, and Kimberlee L. Wilson.

Louise graduated from Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She worked as a Mortician Assistant/Receptionist for Charles W. Newman Funeral Home for over 30 years.  She also worked at the National Steelworker's Oldtimers Foundation (NSOF) as a Caregiver, and Arts & Crafts Director. Louise was a long-time member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she served in a number of auxiliaries, such as Silver Leaf Club, Eastern Stars & many others. She later transferred her church membership to Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worshipping. 

Louise loved to help people, she always had a beautiful smile and a kind word for everyone she met. She was loved by many and will truly be missed. 

Surviving are her children,  Rev. Wilbert "Woody" A. (Rev. Karin) Wilson, Jr. of White Oak; Kevin R. Wilson of Pittsburgh; Lisa M. (Eugene) Kelley of McKeesport; grandchildren she raised, Aerika (Karl) Callaway of Monroeville; Caleb Leggett; and Clifton (Sherell) Leggett of McKeesport; 13 additional grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many, many friends.

John Daniel Bonga of Duquesne, a resident of Juniper Village in Forest Hills, age 98, on Sunday, January 19, 2020. He was the first American child born to Andrew and Anna (Rinyik) on December 30, 1921 in Rankin.

Beloved husband of the late Mildred (Tankosic) Bonga. Loving father of Dan (Nancy) Bonga, David (Monika) Bonga and Nikki (Tom) Stoner. Dearest grandfather (Pap Pap) of Dr. Lily Bonga and Jonathan Bonga; Nathan Stoner and Sally (Stephen) Paul; and the late Amanda Lyn Bonga.

Proud great-grandfather of McCarthy Rae Poljak and Everett Paul. John also was the beloved fiancé of Magdalene “Madge” Seman.

John was a 44-year employee of Westinghouse in East Pittsburgh. Although he rarely spoke of his military service, John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant with the 338th Infantry Regiment combat Team in North Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat.

John was a lifetime member of St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church in Rankin and the White Oak American Legion.

Virginia "Jean" Mikula, 89 of North Huntingdon died January 18, 2020 at The Grove at Irwin.  She was born November 27, 1930 in McKeesport, daughter of the late John and Mary Pamaibo Yagan.  She was a member of St. Agnes Church and enjoyed playing Bingo.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Mikula Sr. in 2013; daughter, Karen Clark and her husband Ted; and sister, Mary Louise Squires.  She is survived by her son Joseph Jr.  and his wife Shelly; daughter Susan Rhodes and her husband Lenny; sister, Pat Fredley; grandchildren, Geoff, Noel, Dawn, Melissa, Tara, Joseph, Nathan and Zachary; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  Friends will be received at the James W. Tom was the store manager of Miller Feed Store in Irwin for many years. He was the past president of the Norwin Lions Club, 11th Armored Calvary Association, Norwin VFW Post 781 and a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the U.S. Army. Paul David Krise Jr., age 67, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020 at his home.

Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Paul was the son of Ruth Lord Krise and the late Paul David Krise, Sr. and son-in-law of the late Nick and Agnes Bruno. He was a retired Postmaster with the United States Postal Service.

Paul was an avid golfer who never met a stranger. He lived his life with zest and passion even when facing the fight of his life. He had a passion for sports and watching his grandchildren was the joy of his life. His family and friends will always remember that Paul always had a smile on his face and he was the life of the party. The manner in which he lived his life in general will resonate with them forever. He won!

Dorothy Ivan/Evans Manzlak, resident of North Huntingdon, PA, formerly of Glassport, born to the late George and Susan (Timura) Ivan of Glassport, died in her one hundredth year on January 15, 2020.  Graduated as the class Salutatorian, she was the last surviving member of Glassport High School Class of 1938. A member of the former Holy Trinity / St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in McKeesport, she was a past president of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and Ladies of Charity, was awarded the Diocese of Pittsburgh Ladies of Charity Service Award Medal, and founded the Holy Trinity Widows' Support Group.  She was a church choir member where the Salesian-published poem she wrote, "Night of Nights," was set to music and sung at midnight mass. She also served as Glassport's Judge of Election, was a Girl Scout Leader, a past president of the Glassport Women's Club, past secretary of the Pittsburgh District of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, and an active volunteer and board member of the former Glassport Public Library.  A resident of Redstone Highlands since 2013, she was known as the "poet" for her spiritual poems, several of which were published by the Salesians in their anthology books and booklets.  Much to her delight, two were chosen for the Salesian Golden Book of Poetry placed in the Vatican Library and several are posted on the Salesian website.  At Redstone, she formed many friendships among residents, staff, and caregivers. She considered each of them as additions to a loving family.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John (Munzie) Manzlak in 1981; a sister, Regina in 1920; half-sisters, Mary Gyurisin, Elizabeth Kushner and Elizabeth Maharik; half-brothers, George and Michael Ivan; son-in-law, Pete Riesberg; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is survived by daughters, Daria Riesberg of Alamo, CA and Dr. Audrey (Timothy) Quinlan of North Huntingdon; two grandchildren, Tara (Bill) Willenbrock of Chantilly, VA and Daniel (Deanna) Quinlan of Cranberry; one step-grandson, Derik Riesberg of CA; three great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.  Family and friends will be received from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday at the James W. Peggy Page Comer Sepcic, 91, of McKeesport passed away Friday, January 10, 2020 peacefully at home. She was born on June 4, 1928 in Shenandoah, VA to the late Franklin and Fannie Comer. She was the wife of the late James George Sepcic, who passed away October 19, 2017. The youngest of 14 siblings who grew up in Shenandoah, Va, Peggy was a strong, caring woman who was already driving at age 14 because, as the last sibling home, she was responsible for taking care of her mother. Peggy was always a sharply-dressed, loving, & welcoming woman who always had a pot of coffee on the stove and an extra plate at her table so no one ever left her home hungry or without good conversation. Until Peggy became ill, she was active member of many organizations including the board of the Liberty Presbyterian Church, an executive member of the McKeesport Hospital Women’s Committee, and a volunteer EMT for the Liberty Borough Ambulance service.  Peggy was loved & revered by all who knew her.

He won 6 WPIAL Championships, 2 PIAA State Championships and 8 section championships. Under Rich's tutelage, 5 of his players reached the prestigious 1000 point club.  Rich won numerous Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and McKeesport Daily News Coach of the Year awards.

He was also a former member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in West Mifflin.

Bernard "Bernie" Edward Arndt, 77 years old, died of natural causes in his North Huntingdon home on January 5, 2020.  He was born on February 16, 1942, to Albert Leo Arndt and Bertha Ann Bachus Arndt.  Bernie proudly served in the Marine Corps for 4 years, stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and in Cuba where he received several medals and accommodations for good conduct, national defense service metal, rifle expert badge and pistol expert badge.  September 1968, Bernie married, the love of his life, Luanne "Lu" Nicole.  Bernie and Lu were the proud parents of one son, Richard "Richie" Arndt.  Bernie's work career included a long-term employment with Beckwith Machinery and Cleveland Brothers at their Murrysville site where he worked in computer programming and software troubleshooting.  Bernie loved to travel both nationally and internationally with his wife, as well as taking Lu antique shopping and to craft shows.  He also enjoyed taking his sister, Bridget, gambling.  He was a long-term resident of the Penns Woods community in North Huntingdon where he enjoyed sitting on his porch people watching and talking to the neighbors.  He also enjoyed supporting the many events sponsored by the Penns Woods Civic Association.  Bernie loved his family and his country.  He was known for his sarcastic sense of humor.  He is predeceased by his wife, Luanne; and his son Richie, as well as his siblings, Anna Mary Schwan, Joseph Arndt, Paul Arndt, Delores "Dee" Ley, and Walburga “Bridget” Arndt.  He is survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.  Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the James W. Brkovich, age 82 of North Huntingdon, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 in The Grove at Irwin.  Born May 5, 1937 in Versailles, he was a son of the late Matthew and Mildred (Brketic) Brkovich.  A member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, William was the former Chief of Police of both Versailles Borough and North Huntingdon Township, a flight instructor at both Rostraver and Allegheny County Airports, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local #66.  He was a member of the Allegheny and Western PA Chiefs Association, the FOP #91, the White Oak American Legion, CFU Versailles Lodge #146, the Civil Air Patrol at the Allegheny County Airport, and a graduate of FBI Training School.  Besides his parents, William was preceded in death by his children James and Roxanne Brkovich and his siblings Ann Tucker and George, "Peaches," Frank, and John Brkovich.  He is survived by his wife Loretta (Goreski) Brkovich; his son Lester "Boo" (Jamie) Brkovich of McKeesport; his stepchildren Marlene (Jeff Brohman) Antonelli of Lakeworth, FL, Michelle Antonelli of North Huntingdon, and Martin (Risa) Antonelli, Jr. of North Huntingdon; his grandchildren C.J., Sarah, and Brian; his sister Katherine Carr of Versailles; and also nieces and nephews.

Eleanor Lynch Anater, 79, of White Oak, died on Wednesday January 1, 2020 at Jefferson Hospital after surgical complications. Ellie was born in Pittsburgh on September 11, 1940 to Ida (McGrady) and William J. Lynch. She grew up on Chislett Street in the Morningside neighborhood of Pittsburgh with her younger sisters, Bea and Marge, always by her side. She met her devoted husband, Tom, while they were both students at Duquesne University, where she earned her B.S. in Biology. They married at St. Raphael’s Church in Morningside in 1963. Together they had six children: Mark, Michael, Susan, Sharon, Patrick, and Tim. She was a devoted member of St. Angela Merici Parish for 47 years. She was selfless in serving her parish family and its school. She was their long-time Parish Secretary and Director of the Junior Ladies of Charity.  She was in charge of flowers and church decorations for every important date on the liturgical calendar for as long as memory serves.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and an avid woodworker and bowler and enjoyed photography. He built both homes his family was raised in.

Paul wintered in Florida for many years with his late wife Suzanna and was a loving father and grandfather.
