Tonya L. Ayers, age 46, of McKeesport, went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2022, at home, after a year of hospitalizations and surgeries. Born July 25, 1976, in McKeesport was the beautiful daughter of Linda Ziino and the late James R. Ayers.
Tonya was a caring, compassionate and gentle person. Her favorite thing to do was to cook and feed anyone. Tonya was an avid cat lover and Pittsburgh Steeler fan; she will be greatly missed by many. She worked as a waitress and bartender for many local businesses. Tonya was very much a people person; she recently started making flower arrangements for everyone she knew.

Joseph Stephen Szalko, Jr., age 71, of Port Vue, died on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was born in McKeesport on October 27, 1950 and is the son of the late Joseph Stephen, Sr. and Katherine Lytle Szalko. He was a 1969 graduate of Duquesne High School and was employed at US Steel, Edgar Thompson Plant, in their railroad division. Joseph was very good in baseball in his younger years and played semi pro for the Zemps. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and coins, and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also loved animals and especially his cat, Charlie.

Thomas John Knaus, 75, of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022 at his home. Tom was born in McKeesport, Pa. on April 11, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Knaus and Lydia Matias Knaus and baby son, Thomas. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 54 years, Marlene Terek Knaus. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Knaus of N. Huntingdon and by his remarkable grandchildren Juliet, Samuel and Ian, of Indiana Twp. He is also survived by his younger sister, Kathy Jo of Spring City, Utah. Tom grew up in Glassport, and graduated from Glassport High School in 1965. Tom was a fine all around athlete and enjoyed all the sports teams in the area. He was an avid golfer still waiting for the elusive hole-in-one. Tom attended California State College and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in education. He also received his masters degree in 1974. Tom taught 33 years in the Duquesne School District as an Industrial Arts teacher. Tom was a veteran of the US Army Reserves, assigned to the 46H Replacement Company in Pittsburgh. He received his honorable discharge in 1976. Friends will be received from 2-7 on Tuesday at the James W. Shirley Funeral Home, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon, PA 15642. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be private. Stanley Hess, 88 of North Huntingdon, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2022 at his home. He was born December 4, 1933 in Philadelphia, Pa. ,a son of the late Albert H and Emma Ours Hess. Stanley was a graduate of Logan High School in West Virginia. Prior to his retirement, Stanley was employed as a Lab Technician by PPG and was a former security guard for Burns Security. He enjoyed old records, and spending time with his grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Long Hess, and daughter, Kathy Hess. He is survived by his two sons, Paul , Timothy (Gloria) three daughters, Deborah Shawley (Al), Mary A. Anthony M. DiVittorio, 89, of North Versailles, formerly of Braddock, died Wednesday October 5, 2022. Beloved son of the late Anthony and Angela DiVittorio. Loving brother of Marie (Ben) Cifone and the late Sam DiVittorio. Brother-in-law of Maggie DiVittorio. Dear uncle of Renee (Mike) Ansell, Leslie (Rick) Ethridge, Laurie (Barry) Wyckoff, Sam (Kathy) DiVittorio, and the late Mary Jo (the late Blake) Hadley. Anthony was a Professor of Music at Duquesne University for 42 years. For 18 months he was a Cryptologist in the Army stationed in Japan. Anthony traveled to New York City every August and then to Taiwan with a friend who was an opera singer for her upcoming concert series. Also survived by numerous great nieces, nephews and many loved cousins.

Regis was a retired steel worker at U.S. Steel Homestead works and a member of the Duquesne- McKeesport Masonic Lodge 731 . He is survived by his beloved wife, Gladys Bundy Solomon, his loving children, Regis Michael  (Pam) Solomon, DeAnne (Lawrence) Massung, and Brian Keith (Carrie) Solomon; two grandchildren Seth Solomon and Bradley Kester; two great grandchildren, Brody and Braxton Kester; two brothers, Freddy (Ginny) Solomon and Kenneth (Kathy) Solomon; a sister Georgianne Balas; a brother-in-law, Emil Bundy Jr.; nieces, Amy Bundy, and Leah Concannon among other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Norman Solomon (wife Maryanne survives).

Jackie Renee Davis, 64, of McKeesport, was born March 30, 1958, in McKeesport, PA. She was the beloved daughter of Julius and the late Patricia Ann (Davis) Wright.

Jackie departed this life on September 30, 2022, in Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Davis Wright, and her oldest brother Kevin D. Davis.

She attended school at McKeesport Area School District where she graduated class of 1977 and continued her education at CCAC Allegheny Campus. Jackie worked as a CNA for over 15 years. Jackie lived in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

Jackie was a very sweet and mild-mannered person with a loving and caring heart. Taking care of children as far back as the “Louise Child Care” Program providing In-Home Day Care services. Later she was employed with Duquesne School System Food Service Program. From there she went on to utilize her Nursing Certification with Helping Homes Inc. and PRN Home Health Care Agency.

Susan Margaret Jalosky (Hill), 60, passed into the arms of Jesus on Oct. 6, 2022 at her home in N. Irwin, PA.  She was born to George E. Hill and the late Franceen E. Hill on Feb. 13, 1962 in Endicott, NY.  Susan was a graduate of Owego Free Academy (1980) & Houghton University (1985).

Susan served her Lord as a member of Circleville UMC and at Norwin Nazarene Church where she was the district children’s quizzing director for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Daryl Jalosky.  In addition to her father (Betty), she is survived by her son, Jonathan Jalosky (Ellen), granddaughters Alethea & Layla, siblings Lynette Abbott (Joe), Heather Campbell (Paul), Daniel Hill (Johanna) and many loved nieces and nephews.

Mary (Maharovchak) Goda, age 92, of Forward Twp. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Jefferson Hospital surrounded by her beloved family. Born August 10, 1930 in Clairton, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Stoyak) Maharovchak. In 1931, Mary and her mother left the United States and went to Konus, Slovakia where she spent 16 years. In 1947, she and her mother returned to the United States and Clairton on the Queen Mary via Ellis Island. She worked at Faye’s Restaurant in Duquesne for four years as a waitress. She met her husband Mike at Kennywood Park on Slovak Day in 1958 and they built a beautiful life together for 60 years. Mary was a member of Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church. She enjoyed telling her family about growing up in Slovakia, singing Slovak songs, and treating everyone to her amazing Slovak cooking and kolachi. Mary loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of their accomplishments. She had a heart of gold and was always happy to help anyone.

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Joan Sophia Yurkov, 85, of North Huntingdon, PA, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2022.  Joan was born to Martin and Sophia Yurko on November 22, 1936, in North Braddock, PA. She grew  up surrounded by many cousins and her dedicate canine companion, Snooty.  Joan was a graduate of Scott High School. After graduation, she joined Bell Telephone as a telephone operator for several years prior to marrying her loving husband, Zolton Emil Yurkov, on October 23, 1965.  Joan loved animals, especially dogs. She was an enthusiastic crafter, football fan, reader, and history buff. Above all, her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a dedicated Girl Scout leader and spent countless hours attending sports practices and games of her children and grandchildren. Joan enjoyed many adventures and often traveled the United States with her family and high school best friends. Joan was a longstanding member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Legion of Mary. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church in North Huntingdon, PA, since 1965 and sang in St. Agnes adult choir for over 30 years. Joan is survived by her two daughters, Carol Ann Spisso and Donna Marie Kolat, and her five grandchildren: Mara Spisso DeCapito (Philip), Marco Spisso, Nicholas Kolat (Natalie), Abra Spisso Podoliak (Jon), and Erin Kolat (Ray Munden). All of whom loved and cherished her deeply.
