On Friday December 9th at 2:55PM, Helen Uhren (Bakota) joined her late husband Michael Uhren in Heaven. She was born on June 15th, 1931 in Homestead, PA to her late parents Albert Bakota and Sophia Bakota (Panocha) and had one brother, the late John Bakota of West Mifflin, PA. She is survived by her loving son Gregory Uhrlen of South Fayette, PA as well as beloved granddaughters Kayla Uhrlen and Juliana Uhrlen both of South Fayette, PA.
Helen graduated from the Robert Morris School (University), Secretarial Science Division, in 1950 and for 14 years she worked in the mortgage banking sector.
In addition to raising her son and spoiling her husband, Helen loved helping people who needed clothing sewn, hemmed or totally re-stitched. She loved sewing clothes for herself for decades and always looked uniquely stylish. The fancy square dancing clothes she designed always received compliments. She also volunteered at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic church in Duquesne, PA helping with the care of vestments.
Helen also volunteered her time helping out with the catechism program at Sts. Peter and Paul for many years. She was also a member of Christian Mother’s at St. Agnes.
Helen’s greatest joy, like Mike’s, were her Granddaughters Kayla and Juliana. Every day, her question was, “how are the girls doing?” even if they had just seen them.
Helen would take care of the girls often for many years while Mike “supervised”. As her dementia grew worse, it became clearer that Kayla and Juliana were watching Helen and Mike instead. Yet, seeing the girls gave them both a purpose and something to talk about.
The family would like to thank the nurses and support staff at St. Clair Hospital who attended to Helen, especially Sharon, Peggy, Celest, Alli and Amanda as well as hospice nurses Janelle and Lisa. Many thanks to Vanessa, Kay, Cam and Bobbi for looking after Helen the last couple years at Victoria Manor in Oakdale, PA.
Helen’s funeral will be Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:00AM at St. Gregory of Nazianzus Byzantine Catholic Church, 2005 Mohawk Rd, Upper St Clair, PA 15241 with Rev. Will Rupp as celebrant followed by burial at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017.

Paul C. Cmar, age 92, of Duquesne, passed away on November 23, 2021. Paul was born on March 18, 1929 in Hostetter, PA. He was the son of John and Mary Cmar, graduating from Latrobe High School in 1947. Paul was preceeded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Marie Yarosik, son Richard (Sherri), brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph (Mildred), John (Sally), Andrew (Gloria), and Francis (Orselena). He is survived by three sons, Dennis (Janice), David (Tracy), and Robert (Patricia). Paul and Marie had twelve grandchildren, Kristen (Daryl Hull), Lesleigh, Robert (Petya), Michael (Angela), Jeffrey (Hallie), Alexandria, David, Emily, Richard (Paige), Samantha, Nicholas, and Nicole. Nine great-grandchildren include Teagan and Maggie Hull, Val, Liam, Kia, Oliver, Theodore, Lillian, and Penelope Cmar. Paul was a member of the US Army, serving as a Military Police Officer in post World War II Germany. Following his service, Paul joined the Duquesne City Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Chief of Police. Upon retiring from the police force, he concluded his career by working in Security for US Steel and McKeesport Hospital. Paul was a devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He served many years as a Board Member and later as Treasurer of FOP Lodge #91. He served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Third Class Cities Group of the Pennsylvania FOP and was elected in 1979 as Pennsylvania’s Representative to the FOP’s National Board of Trustees. He was a Life Member of the Allegheny County Chiefs of Police Association, a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Police Association, and a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey, PA. Paul was a Life Member of VFW Post #188 (Duquesne) and a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus #4210. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, where he served as an Usher and was a member of the Holy Trinity Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Duquesne GBU, the Duquesne Croation Club, and the McKeesport 11th Ward Club. Paul was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather to his family, who loved him dearly. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 27 and Sunday, November 28, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the WILLAIM S. SKOVRANKO MEMORIAL HOME, 828 Richford Street, Duquesne, 412-466-8555, where a Blessing Service will take place on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at Holy Trinity Church, West Mifflin, of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, with the Reverend Larry Adams as Principal Celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, West Mifflin, with Military Honors. Please follow the COVID-19 safety guidelines and wear a mask if you are unvaccinated.

Janice G. (Bierer) Thompson. 70, of Duquesne, entered into Eternal Rest, on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Born in Wilkinsburg on July 29, 1951, she was the daughter of the Late obert W. and Ella Ruth (Morrison) Bierer. Mrs. Thompson was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Duquesne and the Duquesne Family Support Center. She is survived by a loving son, Jason M. Thompson of Wilkinsburg, a brother, Scott R. (Catherine) Bierer of Delmont, a sister Connie Jacob) Collins-Davis of Richmond, Virginia, and four nephews Corey Bierer, Jesse Bierer, Matt Collins and Tres Davis, in addition to her parents, she also was preceded in Death by a nephew, Brad Collins.

Valerie M. (Jozwiak) Skovranko, 88, of Duquesne, fell asleep in the Lord, peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at home. Born on September 12, 1933, in Braddock, she was the daughter of the Late Joseph A. and Valeria (Zgorecki) Jozwiak. Mrs. Skovranko was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Duquesne, and a graduate of the former Braddock General Hospital School of Nursing. Beloved wife of the Late William S. Skovranko, she is survived by her loving children Debora A. (Dr. James) Ragan, William S. Skovranko, Jr., Joseph A. (Lori), Craig M. (Lori) and Christine M. Skovranko; eight grandchildren, Tera Ragan, Mara Ragan, Jameson Ragan, Ryan Skovranko, Brianna Battles, Brandon Battles, Kaitlyn Doherty and Mackenzie Doherty. Born on March 26, 1919, in Ironwood, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Barbara (Adorjayn) Pastor. Beloved wife of the late John P. Vereb, she is survived a daughter, Barbara Vereb, three grandchildren, Jamie Bottesch (Charles Stemler), Robyn (Pamela) DeGuffroy, and James (Leslie) Bottesch, and five great grandchildren, Kasi (Stefan) Bleakney, Ethan Bottesch, Morgan Bottesch, Riley Bottesch, and Naia Bottesch, and nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Arlene Bottesch and two brothers, Frank and Michael Pastor.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lillian Marie Irha, 90, announces her passing on October 16, 2021 in Glen Allen, Virginia. Lillian, née Yanchik, died peacefully at home, surrounded by love.
Lillian was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1931. A 1949 graduate of Munhall High School, Lillian married John J. Irha of Homestead, Pennsylvania in September 1952. They had three children together: Sandra, Nancy, and Daniel.
Described by friends and family as “feisty, unfiltered, and absolutely fabulous,” Lillian was known for her hearty, bubbly giggle and her fun-loving, social personality. She always made it a point to keep in touch with family and friends, whether near or far. Lillian enjoyed dancing, bowling and cards, as well as entertaining at her lovely home. She especially loved bingo and delighted in sharing her quite-frequent winnings with her grandchildren. Lillian, a faithful Catholic, was a lifelong parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cathedral of Munhall, Pennsylvania.

John Adams, Pastor, Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and St. John the Evangelist Church, Olean, NY; Mark (Linda) Adams, Louisville, OH.
Wife of the late William “Bill” Adams of Duquesne, PA. Mary and Bill were joined on earth for 65 beautiful years, now, together forever in heaven. Mary, daughter of the late John and Teresa Ragan of Duquesne was the first child American born from Slovakia. She is survived by her brothers, Dr. James (Debora) Ragan of Los Angeles, CA and Thomas (Lynne) Ragan of Duquesne and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Ivan, Pat enjoyed big band music, taking a turn on the dance floor, and traveling with Mike, her spouse of 51 years. Jane A. (Johnson) Miller, 70, of West Mifflin, died peacefully at home on Monday, July 12, 2021. Born on February 16, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Helen (Butler) Johnson. Mrs. Miller was a retired medical assistant and enjoyed crafting, ceramics, and painting. Beloved wife of the late Frank J. Miller, she is survived by a son, Reuben Joseph (Colleen) Miller II, a daughter, Melanie Kovalsky, a brother, James (Cynthia) Johnson, seven grand children, Vanessa, Bert IV, and Samantha Kovalsky, and Lance, Lexus, Reuben III, and Magnus Miller, and two great grandchildren, Skye and Raine Jordan. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Faith Miller.
