Barbara Ann Bland Tzanakis, Barb, as she was more commonly known, of West Mifflin, died Friday, March 17, 2023 and was born July 28, 1933 in New Martinsville, West Virginia. The youngest of two children born to Mary G. Tustin and John Leroy Bland. She graduated from Magnolia High School in Paden City, West Virginia in 1951 with her favorite classes being music and band. After high school, Barbara attended flight attendant training school for Capitol Airlines in busy NYC. She didn’t complete this, electing to come home to West Virginia to assist her mother, and work for Sterling Faucet. She met and married George Tzanakis in 1957 and the couple moved to Morgantown, W.VA, so that George could complete his degree from WVU with Barb working for Olin Mathison. It was during this time that George and Barbara welcomed their first child, George Michael in 1958.

Robert Scott Castro, Sr., age 61, of McKeesport, died on March 7, 2023. He was born in McKeesport on February 19, 1962 and is the son of the late Felix and Dolores Finney Castro. Robert was a member of the McKeesport Presbyterian Church and the General Smedley D. Butler Post 701, White Oak American Legion. His specialty was in roofing and labor work, but he did a little bit of everything. He was an avid actor and performed at the McKeesport Little Theater and for Conley’s dinner parties. He never missed a Pittsburgh Pirates game and loved to spend time with his family. He was a fun, loving, jovial guy.

He was born in McKeesport on October 25, 1931 and was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Trombola. Michael was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy and a member of St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Parish in Irwin. He was the retired Superintendent of the Municipal Authority of the City of McKeesport. He is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine V. Chapas Trombola who passed away December 11, 2021.

Edward David Singer, age 96, of White Oak, died on Friday, February 24, 2023 at his residence. He was born in Pittsburgh on December 17, 1926 and is the son of the late Joseph Aloysius and Marie McCarthy Singer and the husband of the late Dorothy Singer who died in 2004. Edward served in WW II in the army, was a 50 plus year member of General Smedley D. Butler, Post 701, White Oak American Legion, was the founder and proprietor of Singer Paint and Glass Company in White Oak, on Long Run Road, and still exists at its exact location since 1958. He was a past president of the Mon Yough Chamber of Commerce, and he proudly received the Small Businessman of the Year award in 1993. Most of all, Edward loved his family and all of his friends.

Michalek Kielnar. He received a bachelor’s degree from Point Park University and achieved the dean’s list every semester. He was employed as a Piping Engineer at Total Petroleum in Denver, CO. Before he was diagnosed 35 years ago with multiple sclerosis, he was an avid hiker, fisherman, and tennis player. He enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports teams and was a season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1970s. Stephen was a member at Mary, Mother of God Parish, Corpus Christi Church.

George was employed as an engineer at various companies and retired about 20 years ago. He was a quiet man who kept to himself, however, he loved to square dance. He also enjoyed traveling, especially going to his niece Cindy’s farm in Somerset and to Florida in the winter. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton.
