Karen Lee Balog, age 68, of White Oak died May 18, 2017 at home. Born September 9, 1948 in Homestead, she was the daughter of the late Martin K. Gillette and the living Dorothy M. (James) Gillette and the wife of James Balog for 30 loving years. Karen loved to go out and dance with her husband and friends. She collected cookbooks and made many dishes from them. In addition to her mother and husband, Karen is survived by her step children, Sarah Balog and David (Danielle) Balog; step granddaughter Kayla DiMeo; step grandchildren Krystel and Danny Balog; sister, Debbie Navilliat; niece, Chantillie Navilliat; nephew, Steven Navilliat, great nephew Brandon Navilliat. Karen is preceded in death by her nephew Thomas Navilliat. Carol J. Brletic, age 85, of McKeesport, died May 17, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born August 12, 1931 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Olga (Freeman) Barnes and the wife of John Brletic for the past 65 years. Carol was a lifelong member of the Park Baptist Church. Charles “Babe” Mingo, age 89, of McKeesport, died on May 4, 2017 at home. Born April 18, 1928 in Duquesne, he was the son of the late Paul and Nicoletta (DeMichel) Mingo. He was married to his beloved wife Theresa (DeNardo) Mingo for 68 wonderful years. Charles was retired from Tygart Steel where he was a crane operator. Earlier in life, he worked for Kelsey Hays Wheel Company in McKeesport. Charles was a handyman and took pride in the fact that he remodeled his house by himself. He and his wife belonged to a special group of friends that loved to dance. They would stay up late dancing the night away making memories to last a lifetime. Charles went camping with his family a lot and enjoyed duckpin bowling. In addition to his beloved wife, Charles is survived by his children, Annette (Jim) Bryer, Charles Jr. (Christine) Mingo; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his 8 brothers and sisters. Charles J. (Pogo) Puglia, age 92, of McKeesport, died on April 27, 2017. Born in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Felicia (Lombardo) Puglia. He was married to Lois (Horn) Puglia for a wonderful 71 years. Charles served with the U.S. Army 85th Division in Italy and North Africa during WW II. He received many medals which include; the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct, Victory Medal, European Theatre Ribbon with 3 bronze stars. Charles was a member of the White Oak American Legion, a lifetime member of McKeesport Sportsman Club. He loved to hunt, fish, and was an all around handy man. He was a former member of St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church and St. Pius V Church and currently a member of Corpus Christi Church. He was an usher and former dart club member. Charles worked for U.S. Steel in the open hearth department at National Tube. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his children, Judy (Bob) Riley of Mt. Joy, Carol (Mark) Lieberum of North Huntingdon, Joe (Beverly) Puglia of North Huntingdon; 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his siblings, Josephine Uhlyar and Frances Richards, and Benedetto Puglia. Claudia Bondi, 84 of McKeesport passed away peacefully at home surrounded by friends and family after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Claudia was born March 13, 1933, the youngest of seven children of Russian immigrant parents Anasim and Anna Arashinko.  Claudia graduated from the McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing, as well as being a member of the first graduating class of the McKeesport School for Anesthesia.  She spent her entire career as a nurse anesthetist at McKeesport Hospital where she always enjoyed helping others.  After retirement, Claudia volunteered for Meals on Wheels and kept active at St Gregory’s Russian Orthodox Church where she was a lifetime member. Claudia is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter Kimberly of Tampa, Florida; her brother Jack (Joan) Arin of Baldwin; sister in law Sandra (Ronald) Brooks of McKeesport; numerous nieces and nephews; three cats and grand-dogs Mzee and Mika.  The Bondi family would like to extend their thanks to all of Claudia’s home healthcare workers who treated her with the utmost care and compassion.  Friends and family will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.  Committal at Mt. Loretta Tatarzyn, age 85 of North Huntingdon, died April 26, 2017 at her home. Born June 15, 1931 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Adele (Tomkowitz) Novak, and loving wife of the late Ted Tatarzyn for 54 years of wedded bliss. Loretta was a long time parishioner of Saint Agnes Church in North Huntingdon. She could often be found tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, however her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Whether it be a surprise visit to the house or one of the many family vacations traveling the world, she always cherished the time with her family. Family, faith and flowers brought her the most happiness! Marie Germek, age 89, of McKeesport, died April 22, 2017, at home with her children by her side. Born April 6, 1928, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Gusta and Anna (Balint) Tiffany and the wife of the late Raymond J. Germek.

Marie worked at many different restaurants throughout the McKeesport area in her early years. She then dedicated her life to caring for her family. She is a member of Corpus Christi Church and was a Christian Mother at the former Sacred Heart Church. Marie enjoyed working jig saw puzzles and she will always be remembered for her delicious homemade dishes, especially during family gatherings and holidays.  Marie is survived by children, Darniece Homler of McKeesport, Michael (Christine) Germek of McKeesport; daughter-in-law, Margo Germek of North Huntingdon; grandchildren, Renee (Patrick) Germek Dooen, Amber Germek, Chantal Germek (Brian Pope), Kristin Germek and Heather ( Allan) Link; great grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Noah, Allyson and Carter; brother, Ted (Dee) Tiffany of McKeesport; sister-in-law, Patricia Ancarana of Port Vue; also nieces and nephews. Guy P. Redinger, age 99, of White Oak died April 11, 2017 at Forbes Regional Hospital. Born February 12, 1918 in Everett he was the son of the late Wesley and Carrie (Straily) Redinger. He was married to Betty Mae Burket until she died in 1986. He was then married to Lucille (Wunderly) Redinger until she died in 2012. Guy was a World War II veteran. He retired from Peoples Union Bank where he was a Building Maintenance Supervisor for over 30 years. He was a 50 year member of the Youghiogheny Lodge No. 583. He was also a member at Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Syria Shrine, Caravan No. 4, and White Oak American Legion Post #701. Guy was a Deacon in the Church of the Brethren for over 60 years. He was a part of the old timers golf league and had a recorded hole in one at 7 Springs Golf Course at the age of 80. Guy is survived by his children Joyce (Grant) McNally of North Huntingdon, Terry (Diane) Redinger of St. Petersburg, FL; step daughter Luanne (Brian) Obert of Vienna, VA; grandson Scott (Jennifer) Craze; great-grandchildren Chelsea (Eric) Snyder, Logan and Garrett Craze; great great-grandchildren Mason and Carter Snyder; nieces and nephews. Irene C. Miller, age 93, of McKeesport passed away peacefully on March 30, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. Born January 9, 1924 in Ulanow Poland, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Jozefa Chmielowski and the wife of the late Lloyd W. Miller, Jr. Irene was taken from her home in 1943 to work in a forced labor camp in Germany. In 1945 she met her husband during the war. In 1947 she came to the United States to start a family and a career. She worked at the McKeesport Hospital for 45 years where she retired as a nurses aid. Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, Pittsburgh sports and spending time with her family. She was a member of Corpus Christi Parish and St. Mary Czestochowa bowling league. Irene is survived by her children, Barbara Adams of Sigel,  Lori (Robert) Davis of North Huntingdon, Lloyd W. Miller III of Munhall and William J. Miller of McKeesport; grandchildren, Josette (John) Kippenberger, Justin (Elizabeth) Davis and Michael (Lauren) Davis; great-grandchildren, Elisha, Desiree, Michael, Logan, Jaxson and Lennon; great-great  grandchildren, Sophia, Sterling and Skylar; sisters, Helen and Mary. Nowicki, age 92 of McKeesport, entered into Heaven’s Gates on March 29, 2017 at Paramount Senior Living in McMurray.  Born March 15, 1925 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Sally (Rymar) Kustra and wife of the late Edmund R. Nowicki.  Our mother always looked for the good in everyone and offered a warm greeting to everyone she met.  She had a gracious, selfless spirit and indomitable strength despite all the challenges of her life, because, “someone always has it worse”.  She was our heart and soul.  She was the Past President of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers & Ladies Guild, Past President of the Rosary Society, Eucharistic Minister and former member of the Pastoral Council.  She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #221 and the McKeesport PNA #352.  She is survived by her son, Dr. Edmund J. (Christi) Nowicki; daughter, Patricia J. Dobranski; grandchildren, Aaron Stewart, Lacey Stewart, Kellie (Josh) Stahlman, Logan Stewart, Edmund C. Nowicki, Haley Nowicki, Roberto Nowicki, Jack Nowicki, Amanda (David) Stone, Melissa (Daniel) Fletcher, and Ethan Dobranski; great-grandchildren, Caleb Stahlman, Rayne Stone, and Clara Stahlman, and also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by daughters, Cyndi Nowicki and Marianne Stewart; sister, Gladys Golik; brother, Edward Kustra and niece, Donna Golik.  Family and friends will be received at Jaycox-Jaworski Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 2-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Corpus Christi Church.  Fr. Raymond A. “Mex” Maldonado, age 63 of McKeesport, died at home on March 28, 2017.  Born June 26, 1953 in McKeesport, he was the son of Harry R. (the late Margaret) Maldonado and Alicia (Jerry) Peters.  He was the loving husband of Cindy (Stumme) Maldonado for 25 years.  Ray worked as a Maintenance Supervisor for Mifflin Estates.  He was a “dad” to many and was always willing to mentor and provide for anyone.  He was remembered in the summer for paying the ice cream man in advance so that way, any kid who came up was more than welcome to enjoy some ice cream at no expense.  The word hate did not exist in his vocabulary.  He had a passion for bass fishing and going to his second home at Lake Wilhelm.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Chad (Sarah) Maldonado; Kelly (John Jr.) Hatfield, Katy (Layne) Hurst, and grandchildren, Olivia “O”, Caleb, Cash, Jordan, and Alexis; siblings, Lisa Maldonado, Brian Maldonado, Cindy Campagna, Jennifer Evars, Jerry Peters, Pam (Tom) Keffer  and Leayn Thomas.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, special sons and daughters.  He was preceded in death by mother, Margaret Maldonado; brothers Bruce Maldonado and Chuck McCune.   Family and friends will be received on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m, and Monday services will be held at the funeral home chapel at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park.  Condolences may be shared at www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com
